IC Information:
Name: Shinji Matou
Fandom: Fate/EXTRA
Timeline: After he summons Rider, but before the first week of battles matches him up against the main character.
Age: 8
Appearance: Shinji appears as his in-game avatar - a teenager of about seventeen or eighteen. His hair is a bit messy and a bright shade of blue about the same as his eyes; he wears a typical brown school uniform so that it shows part of his chest and the shirt under it.
Abilities: There is one thing that Shinji does, and he does it well: hack. He's stated to be one of the best hackers in Asia, if not the best. He's capable of hacking his in-game appearance to be the age he wants, as well as give his Servant more powerful abilities. Aside from that, he's as useless as a normal human.
Personality: Shinji is vain, self-centered, and arrogant. He assumes that he'll win in his battles even when he can't contribute to them. He complains about people who annoy him, is a sore loser, and comes off as a jerk even when he's offering to join up with someone (since of course it's him taking pity on them and not just because he wants to not get beaten!) For some reason, probably his looks, he tends to be popular in school among girls, but it's difficult for anyone to actually be his friend. Victory is much more important to him than being a nice person.
History: In the time of Fate/EXTRA, magecraft stopped working ages ago. However, an Automaton was discovered on the moon that could accomplish miracles. In order to battle for a Holy Grail, an artificial environment (Moon Cell) is set up where 128 participants can summon Servants from the recordings of the Automaton and battle. A Master whose Servant is defeated is deleted from both the artificial world and the real one. Shinji is one of these Masters.
Little is mentioned about Shinji's history in the real world, although it seems to be dissimilar from the version of him seen in Fate/stay night. He is a skilled computer hacker and a champion at games in Asia, an only child, and possessing of no magecraft at all. He entered the game to continue his reputation as a champion and became a Master, summoning Rider, a Servant who embarrasses him with her nonchalance and drives him crazy with needing to be paid for her work. Shinji is matched up against the main character in the first week, fighting against him several times and finally being defeated on the last day of the week. He curses his loss and blames his Servant, before realizing too late that he'll actually die because of being defeated.
Roleplay Sample - Log: Shinji wandered through the halls of the facility.
At first he'd been walking. This was nothing like what he'd expected, but what kind of game player would he be if he couldn't adapt to a change in the situation? Only, there wasn't supposed to be this drastic a change in the situation this early. Shinji wasn't normally ticked off about rules he didn't know about, because usually his opponent didn't know about them either. He was the better of the two of them, who could find the hidden parts of the code and use them to his advantage.
For being in the middle of a game, there was surprisingly little code going on. Obviously his hacked avatar was still working right, but other than that, nothing. He couldn't even find a single student council member to get a message from the system about what the hell was going on.
Then he panicked and started running, looking for any sign of the familiar. Rider was supposed to be here, to fight his battles for him. Although he'd disliked her on their first meeting, he'd pay her fortunes to just be able to relax and know where he was and what he was doing. Another Master, someone else he recognized from his tournaments, anyone he knew. He hated not being in control, and this was definitely out of his control.
When running tired him out, he went back to wandering around slowly. Of course he was in control. It was just a little unexpected. But when he found his Servant and the enemy Master... Yeah, he'd definitely win. Whatever twists this game had, he'd win.
Roleplay Sample - Journal: Just from looking around a little... A lot of you have avatars you can't be happy with. It's good to be intimidating if you're a Servant, but if you actually have to make conversation, then you should look more normal and less like you're a mutated football player working in a nuclear power plant.
If things were working normally, I'd be able to fix those for you. When it comes to that, I'm the best in Asia, so it's simple to make adjustments to little things like appearances. Though it's sad that the code here isn't something even I can get at. You'll have to live with those for a while.
Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here. While this Shinji is from the Fate/Stay Night series, he's different enough in background and setting from the main game's Shinji Matou that I would really prefer him to be listed under Fate/EXTRA, if possible. Thank you!
